If you have been working with a coach through BetterUp’s individual plan, you have probably seen the notice: BetterUp for Individuals is winding down as the company focuses on its enterprise business. It is a rational strategic move, and BetterUp has published clear dates and policies for the transition. But the practical questions are yours to handle: what happens to your sessions, what happens to years of assessments and notes, and how do you keep going with work that matters to you?
This guide collects everything in one place, with links to BetterUp’s own documentation for each fact.
The Key Dates
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| January 31, 2026 | Last day new subscriptions, sessions, gift card redemptions, and plan edits were available (already passed) |
| February 1, 2026 | Wind-down began; unused flex sessions stopped rolling over and expire on the date listed in your account |
| July 31, 2026 | Last day monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual plans can renew |
| January 31, 2027 | BetterUp for Individuals ends entirely |
All dates from BetterUp’s official FAQ. If you are on a monthly, quarterly, or bi-annual plan and want maximum remaining time, renewing before July 31, 2026 is your last opportunity. Annual plans that renew after that date simply run to the end of their term.
Before Anything Else: Save Your Growth Record
This is the step people regret skipping. Your assessments, reflections, session resources, and coach messages live inside your BetterUp account, and BetterUp itself highly encourages members to save all resources, assessment reports, and messages with their Coach before canceling.
Two warnings from BetterUp’s own policy, worth reading twice:
- Canceling is permanent. If you cancel, you cannot return to your account later. Whatever you did not save is gone.
- There is no one-click export. BetterUp does not currently document a self-serve data export, so saving your record is a manual job.
The practical checklist, while your account is still active:
- Download or screenshot every assessment report (Whole Person Assessment and any follow-ups); these show your baseline and growth over time
- Save the resources and exercises your coach shared with you
- Copy or print your message history with your coach; it holds commitments, breakthroughs, and context no summary can replace
- Note your goals and any tracking data you logged
- For a complete copy of your personal data, submit a request through BetterUp’s Privacy Request Center; privacy laws in many places give you the right to a copy of the data a company holds about you. Step-by-step walkthrough below.
Do this even if you plan to use every remaining session. It costs an hour; skipping it costs the record.
How to Request a Full Copy of Your BetterUp Data, Step by Step
Alongside manually saving your materials, BetterUp runs an official Privacy Request Center where you can request that a copy of your personal data be sent to you. Here is the exact flow.
Step 1. Open the Privacy Request Center and click Verify Your Identity.

Step 2. Choose who the request is for. For your own record, pick For Myself.

Step 3. In the “I am a/an” dropdown, select Member. (Coaches have their own option here too.)

Step 4. Choose Email Verification and confirm.

Step 5. Enter the email tied to your BetterUp account, complete the reCAPTCHA, and click Authenticate Email. BetterUp verifies you by email; once you are through, choose the request type for a copy of your data and submit. Requests are typically fulfilled within the windows privacy laws set, often up to 30 to 45 days, so start now rather than near your end date.

One note: the formal request gives you your personal data. The manual checklist above is still worth an hour, because saved copies of resources and message threads in their original form are often more useful day-to-day than a data export.
What Happens to Your Coaching Relationship
Your subscription ends; the work does not have to. Coaches on BetterUp’s individual platform are independent professionals, and many are opening private practices as this program winds down. Whether yours is doing so is their news to share, not ours, so the simplest step is to ask your coach directly what their plans are and whether you can continue working together after the wind-down.
If your coach is continuing independently, continuity is usually simple: same coach, new booking and payment setup, and your saved record keeps the history intact.
If your coach is not continuing, or you have already lost touch, a break does not have to end the work either. Bring your saved record to any new coach and the first sessions start from your actual history rather than from zero.

Your Growth Record Should Outlive Any Platform
The bigger principle behind all of this: your growth record is yours. Years of assessments, reflections, breakthroughs, and coach conversations are a record of who you have been and where you are going, and it should travel with you through every phase and transition: a new coach, a new platform, a career change, a pause and a restart. Platforms come and go; the work you did is permanent if you keep custody of it. That is the standard worth holding any future coaching product to, ours included: you should always be able to walk away with your record intact.
Where Vibly Can Help
Vibly is an all-in-one platform where independent coaches run their practices: scheduling, sessions, secure messaging, forms, and client records in one place, built so that coaches and clients own their relationship.
Two things we offer BetterUp members, both free:
Growth Record Rescue. Send us the materials you saved (assessments, notes, messages, in whatever messy shape they are in) and we organize them into a clean, readable growth record you keep, no subscription required. Your history stays yours, whatever you do next. Reach out here and mention Growth Record Rescue.
Continuity, either way. If your coach sets up their practice on Vibly, you continue with them there and your record comes with you. If not, our coach directory has verified, board-accredited coaches across executive, leadership, career, health, wellness, and life coaching, and your record gives whoever you choose a running start.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does BetterUp individual coaching end?
BetterUp for Individuals officially ends on January 31, 2027. New subscriptions and session purchases ended January 31, 2026, and the last possible renewal for monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual plans is July 31, 2026, per BetterUp’s official FAQ.
Can I still renew my BetterUp individual plan?
Monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual plans can renew until July 31, 2026. Annual plans set to renew after January 31, 2026 are not eligible for renewal and run to the end of their current term.
How do I export my data from BetterUp?
Two routes, use both: save assessments, resources, and coach messages manually while your account is active, and request a complete copy of your personal data through BetterUp’s Privacy Request Center at privacyrequests.betterup.co (walkthrough above). Save everything before canceling, because canceled accounts cannot be reopened.
What happens to my unused flex sessions?
As of February 1, 2026, flex sessions no longer roll over and expire on the date listed in your account. Check your dashboard for exact expiration dates.
Can I keep working with my BetterUp coach?
That is between you and your coach. Many coaches are opening independent practices as the program winds down; ask yours directly whether and where they plan to continue, and they can tell you how to keep working together.
Will my coaching history transfer to a new platform?
Not automatically, which is why saving your record first matters. Vibly’s free Growth Record Rescue turns your saved materials into an organized record you own, whether or not you ever use Vibly for coaching.
