FAQs

Do you attend meetings with the parent?

Button

At SPEDucation Support, our goal is to make sure parents feel confident and supported throughout the special education process. While I do not replace the school team, I can attend IEP or 504 meetings with you, virtually or in person (when possible), to help you navigate the conversation, ask the right questions, and ensure your voice is heard. Some families prefer that I coach them before the meeting and debrief afterward, while others want me right there at the table (or on Zoom/phone).

Will you tell me how to “win” against the school?

Button

I wouldn’t frame it as “winning against the school," because special education isn’t supposed to be a battle of sides. The real goal is making sure your child gets the supports, services, and education they’re legally entitled to. It’s about advocating with knowledge, confidence, and strategy so the school is held accountable and your child gets what they need to thrive.

What tools or screeners do you use for dyslexia?

Button

I use the Feifer Assessment of Reading (FAR) Screener to check for signs of dyslexia, along with informal reading assessments to see how your child learns best. I also look at school records, family history, and other background information so I can give you a complete picture of your child’s reading needs.

Can you help if my child is not in special education yet?

Button

Absolutely! Many families reach out when they’re just starting to notice learning or behavior concerns. I can guide you through the evaluation process, explain your rights under IDEA or Section 504, and show you how to request support from the school in a respectful and informed way.
