🇺🇸 English Version – From Collapse to Liberation: My Calling to True Healing

By Márcio Conte

After more than 15 years watching my own health deteriorate — shelves full of medications to manage all the so-called “diseases of prosperity” — my system finally collapsed. On February 1st, 2020, despite taking over 12 medications daily, I suffered a drug-induced seizure. That moment changed the course of my life.

When I regained consciousness, I realized something crucial: the medications weren’t healing me; they were merely suppressing symptoms. Conventional medicine had failed me. Even as a Pharmacy and Biochemistry student at EPM – Escola Paulista de Medicina, I came to a painful realization: we were being trained not to promote health, but to treat disease. I was deeply frustrated.

That’s when I decided to take charge and search for healing myself. In one of those talks, I discovered a so-called “heretic” doctor — often ridiculed in academia and banned from mainstream media — who spoke the truth with courage: Dr. Lair Ribeiro, a cardiologist and expert in nutrition. He mentioned the ketogenic diet as an alternative therapy for drug-resistant epilepsy and recommended a film starring Meryl Streep called First Do No Harm, based on the true story of a boy named Charlie.

I found the cure that freed me from these “modern world diseases.” I thank God for the existence of these brave doctors, who endure mockery and persecution for doing what is right in the service of life. These heroes deserve our respect — and I now follow their example so that others may also find freedom from the global disease industry.

In seeking to prevent another seizure, I ended up healing from much more:
obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, acid reflux, chronic gastritis, H. pylori infection, and depression.
My self-esteem returned. My physical, mental, emotional, and intellectual strength was restored.
My academic path was redirected toward promoting true, full-spectrum health. Because yes — it is possible.

I now feel a deep calling:
“To heal the sick and set the captives free.”

A medicina ortodoxa falhara comigo. Como estudante de Farmácia e Bioquímica na EPM – Escola Paulista de Medicina, percebi com dor que estávamos sendo treinados para tratar doenças, e não para promover saúde. Isso me frustrou profundamente.

A eles, tiro meu chapéu.

Like most health coaches, I arrived at this place because of my own health journey. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when I was 12 years old. In my 20s, I was diagnosed with Graves' disease, another autoimmune condition. In my 40s, I received another diagnosis…celiac disease. This third autoimmune condition sent me down a path of discovering what was causing my immune system to go awry and attack my own tissue instead of potential pathogens.

As I tried different approaches to heal and discovered how the ultra-processed-food world we are a part of played a significant role in my health challenges, I wanted to share what I was learning. In 2017 I earned my coaching certification and then in 2021 earned national board certification in health and wellness coaching. As I began coaching, the people who came to me all had similarities. They all were insulin resistant and moving towards a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes. I found it remarkable how that was a commonality despite the multiple different conditions that were a struggle for them.

I went down a rabbit hole to learn more about insulin resistance and how it might connect to some of these other situations my clients were dealing with. Soon I discovered Ben Bikman's book Why We Get Sick. His explanation of the link between high insulin levels and so many chronic conditions made a light bulb go off in my mind. Because the approach of lowering insulin made so much sense, I became a certified coach with Insulin IQ.

In working with clients, we co-discover ways to get insulin levels and blood sugars back under control. Since going through perimenopause and then menopause as a Type 1, I have worked to keep my insulin low to control my weight. This perspective has helped me to understand even better the role insulin plays in people who may not yet have diabetes, but who are struggling with insulin resistance and who are carrying extra weight. It's wonderful when I watch clients connect the dots and then find success in managing their metabolic health with incremental habit changes. This approach to regaining health truly does work!

My nutrition journey started around 20 years ago with sports nutrition. Back then, I didn’t have the resources to educate myself properly, so I often relied on marketing claims, advice from my personal trainer, and common ideas like "salads and smoothies are healthy because they’re low in fat." That was a mistake! I took one university nutrition class, which I enjoyed, but it didn’t feel right for me. I wanted to become a registered dietitian, but that class stopped me from choosing that major.

Fortunately, I discovered informative podcasts and books that changed my perspective. I learned that traditional universities often lack a holistic approach and can be influenced by biased funding. I eventually became a licensed psychotherapist, but my interest in nutrition remained strong. I found holistic training focused on a whole-person approach, free from corporate bias.

Now, I see clients for both nutritional psychotherapy and general health, with a special focus on ketogenic therapy. I have a physical office, so I can work with you either in-person or online!

My health coach journey began in my early 40’s as I started to put on the dreaded midlife weight gain despite exercising (chronic cardio) and ‘eating healthy’ (read standard american diet) as I had always done. Developing significant asthma and allergies in my 40’s was unexpected, as were the symptoms of perimenopause really becoming prominent at that early age. I was exhausted, falling asleep while commuting and at my desk in the afternoon, drinking more and more coffee right through to day’s end just to stay awake till bedtime, not to mention being irritable.” I realized there might be more to the health puzzle than just keep exercising more and more, finding 3 workouts a day becoming unsustainable with 3 little kids to care for. I began my journey in finding an audiobook called The Obesity Code by Jason Fung. As I listened, I felt like my mind was being opened to a whole new world, a new way of looking at health that I had never encountered in all my years of healthcare training as a pharmacist. This was the missing piece to the puzzle. Since that day, I jumped in with both feet into the metabolic health world, devouring all the information I could get my hands on. First, through intermittent fasting and building on that with low-carb strategies and gut health approaches, I lost weight and developed a new approach to health that didn’t leave me exhausted, physically and mentally. Building on optimizing dietary and exercise strategies, I have also improved both my asthma/allergies and my perimenopause symptoms.

Heroic Performance Life Coach / Certified Insulin IQ Coach / Functional Movement Proponent

20 years of experience | $175 - $250 per session

Stockbridge, US

We live in an Unhealthy Default Reality where disease, dysfunction and delusion have become normalized, celeberated and expected.  It falls on the belief that disease is inevitable and out of our control, therefore, we carry out the conscious and unconscious behaviors and habits that upholds that belief.  Optimizing your health, healing and transformation requires you to look at beliefs that hold you back and change your behaviors and habits.

As a Heroic Performance Life Coach the greatest experience is helping, guiding and supporting you to break free from the imprisionment of this Unhealthy Default Realty built on the choices made in the past.  With amplified awarenesss and the power of choice you can empower your liberation from the belief that disease is inevitable and out of your control and enter into the Hero's Journey of health, healing and transformation in body, mind and spirit.

Health is the Foundation to Life.

If one accepts that almost 9 out of 10 individuals find themselves with some degree of active metabolic injury, illness and/or disease, you may find it reasonble to consider this requires Metabolic Rehabilitation to restore optimal cellular metabolic function.

The challenge I have seen as a pattern with clients is that the one making the choices and decisions also needs rehabilitation. That is to make better decisions that will support your health and wellness goals with understanding everything is connected: Health is of the Body, Healing is of the Mind and Transformation is the Love you have for your Future Self which is created in the next choice you make.

As a 6 Time Cancer Survivor I know the road to restoring, regenerating and rebuilding trust and faith in the process of opitimizing my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing.  And the process required one thing:

Self Love.

And Self Love was the very starting point for my journey.  To love, honor and fully accept where I was in the beginning while also learning to love, honor and respect my furture Self.

Understanding and accepting the Universal framework of Nutrition and Movement as the two engines that can radically transform your pain and problems into potential and possibilities.

When you are truly nourished in your body, mind and spirit then you move in such a way that it becomes Nourishing.   This is the path and process of renewal and regeneration.

Cancer, any other chronic illness or health challenges doesn’t need to stop your life. Because it’s not over - in fact, your life has just begun. I say bring it on!  Be a Warrior for Your Wellness.

Part of my evolution and purpose is helping others move forward to optimize their health and wellbeing. That’s why I became a holistic heroic performance life coach focused on HOPE - Helping Other People Evolve into their true authentic selves.

I'm passionate about helping others reverse chronic metabolic diseases like pre-diabetes, diabetes, and cancer. I learned decades ago that the body is a healing machine when we give it what it needs. My personal journey includes the ordinary metabolic miracle of healing from late stage liver cancer, with an expected expiration date during the spring of 1998. Simply put, I want others to experience the very same success I experienced. I'm not a hero. I simply learned how to take care of myself in every way a person must. And my body did the rest. As an Insulin IQ coach, I will walk beside the person who has a strong desire to heal and a willingness to transform their health by learning what to do, then acting on the sound knowledge provided by Insulin IQ. If nothing changes, nothing changes. Of course, there are no guarantees, but improvement and the possibility that metabolic disease can be reversed is inevitable when we give our full attention to a very important mission.
