Overview

“We only can create impact if it’s sustainable for us to create impact. If this just becomes a passion project, you won’t have a career. That is the hard reality.” Dr. Jessica Matthews

In this episode of CoachConnect, Dr. Diego Salinas and Dr. Jessica Matthews dig into the hard conversations the health and wellness coaching profession needs to have right now, and why avoiding them is no longer an option.

Dr. Matthews opens with the state of the field. Eight years into the formalization of health and wellness coaching, tremendous progress has been made. However, critical challenges remain around clinical integration, reimbursement, professional identity, and sustainable careers for practicing coaches.

She also unpacks why the profession may be facing a quiet identity crisis. Is health and wellness coaching a health profession or a certification that relates to health? She challenges the field to move beyond echo chamber conversations and take collective action, because words without action won’t move the needle.

Together, Diego and Jessica explore the power of collaboration over competition, why coaches who earn their credentials often don’t end up practicing, and how the Health and Well-Being Coaching Conference is creating the space for these hard but necessary conversations.
