Program structure

1. Initial Health and Wellness Session

Button

This is our first session together. We'll set the foundation of your coaching journey during this session. Many aspects of life contribute to our health status and well being: career, creativity, education, finances, health status, nutrition, home/community environment, relationships, socialization, spirituality, etc. If there is any aspect of your life that is below the level of satisfaction that you would like, and it is having an impact on your wellness, we can discuss this as a possible focus of your coaching program.

2. Choose the best Coaching Program for Your Needs

Button

During the initial session we will discuss whether you feel the Targeted Health and Wellness Program or the Comprehensive Health and Wellness Program better meets your needs. The Targeted program is designed to tackle one or two areas of wellness. The program includes weekly/biweekly sessions for three months followed by four- monthly sessions for a total of seven months of support. The Comprehensive program allows for more time to tackle multiple, inter-related areas of wellness. It includes weekly/biweekly sessions for six months followed by one-monthly session for a total of seven months of support.

3. Determine the Best Schedule for You

Button

You can decide if 30-minute sessions every week or 45-minute sessions every other week will support you better. Some clients like to take smaller, quicker steps toward their goals, and others like to take slightly bigger steps which take a little more time to implement. You decide.

4. Maintenance Plan

Button

If you decide the Targeted Program is best for you, four-monthly sessions will be scheduled at the conclusion of your weekly/biweekly sessions. If you choose the Comprehensive Plan, one monthly session will be scheduled the conclusion of your weekly/biweekly sessions. This allows us to work together past the six month "Action" stage that is often critical to getting to "Maintenance". This is to facilitate the likelihood that you will have long term success with your goals and make your health and wellness vision a reality.

Experience

10 years experience

"My interest in health and wellness was ignited early in life; I was in middle school when my dad had to go to physical therapy to rehabilitate a back injury. I knew I wanted to be a physical therapist when I was 12 years old! I completed physical therapy school at Medical College of Virginia in 1987 and practiced as a licensed physical therapist for 23 years. During that time I was privileged to peek behind the curtain into thousands lives. There were some outstanding lessons that I learned vicariously through my amazing patients - both how to live life well and how to not really live life at all. I was observing the concept of "health span" in my everyday life, coincidentally the term health span was born around the time I entered P.T. practice! Maybe that's why it was something that has remained a guiding concept for me since then. As I became more fascinated with health span and the related field of epigenetics, preventative practice became more of a priority to me. I began to engage in professional wellness pursuits including practicing and teaching yoga with a 200-hour certification, practicing and teaching Pilates, practicing and teaching Matsubayashi-ryu karate as a shodan, and becoming a certified personal trainer with the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2005. I served clients with a multitude of chronic health conditions from 2005-2016 which was a perfect niche for someone who had a long physical therapy background. In 2015 I completed a year-long Health Coach Training Program with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and started incorporating coaching practices into my personal training practice. I took my education and experience to the federal government in 2016 to put my Master of Arts in Organizational Management to work; a degree I had earned in 2004 during my time as a physical therapist in health care management. I served in workforce development for the U.S. Air Force. One of my responsibilities in workforce development was coordinating a wide range of coaching programs available to both our civilian and military workforce. I was able to witness and experience the power of professional coaching during my tenure. This renewed my interest in the coaching profession. The National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) exam was initiated in 2017 in response to a rapidly evolving coaching industry. With my renewed interest in coaching and higher standards developing in the profession, I decided it was time for me to sit for that national board exam. I completed IIN's Coaching Intensive Practicum in July 2025 which qualified me to sit for the exam. I'll be taking the NBHWC exam in November 2025 to earn the NBC-HWC credential which is recognized as the industry standard. Despite my decades of experience in rehabilitation, health and wellness, and workforce development, I'm not exempt from the rollercoaster of life. I've ridden the crazy ride like everyone else and have had my own struggles with wellness. My role as coach is to support my clients while they're navigating the hard but rewarding work of change, I do so with great empathy and respect."

FAQs

Still need more clarity? Here are answers to some commonly asked questions.

What if I'm not sure that I want to try Health Coaching or I'm not sure I want to work with you?

Button

This is absolutely understandable. Health Coaching is an investment in precious resources (time, money and energy). Coaching has become commonplace in society today due to the research showing its efficacy, much of it done with our military veterans. The behavior change techniques and tools are well-supported and time-tested in the field of psychology. If you decide it's right for you, coaching is well worth the investment. Click the "Book A Free Call" link next to my profile photo so we can chat about coaching and get your questions answered. There are no strings attached. No platform (Vibly) account or credit card required to book or complete the call.

I'm ready to jump in! How do I get started?

Button

Click on the Book a Call link. You do not need to set up an account on my platform (Vibly), unless you want to, of course.

How long will we need to work together for me to meet my goals?

Button

Based on the well known Transtheoretical Model (TTM). The National Board for Health and Wellness Coaches recommends that a client be in the "Action" stage for six months before moving into "Maintenance". That's the reason most coaching programs are six months in duration with a short sequence of follow-ups afterward. Based on research, we know that is the length of time that will result in the greatest likelihood of sustained behavioral change. We can discuss this more during the initial session as each client and situation are unique.

I might want to share some medical information with you. Is my information safe?

Button

Absolutely! One of the reasons I chose the Vibly platform for my coaching practice is that it's HIPAA compliant. All client data, messaging, note-taking, and session records are fully encrypted and HIPAA compliant. As the Health Coaching profession is formalizing (it used to be the "Wild West") and growing, national board certified coaches are being brought into (or working with) medical practices, insurance companies and hospitals. In some circumstances, coaching is already HSA-eligible and the profession is lobbying for insurance coverage for health coaching. As a former licensed provider, being able to protect client information is critical to me and it is becoming increasingly critical to the profession.
